Laser therapy is becoming more and more common in modern dentistry. Two types of laser treatment, hard tissue and soft tissue, are used, and each offers its own benefits. Dr. Schuh uses soft tissue laser therapy exclusively, which has been shown to be a less invasive means of treating periodontal disease, also known as gum disease. Gum disease is an infection of the bone and supporting structure of your teeth, and a majority of the adult population has some degree of gum disease.
To treat gum disease, we use a laser to remove select portions of infected tissue that lines your teeth. In the process, the laser will kill gum disease-causing bacteria, which promotes the overall health of your mouth.
